University of British Columbia BeeHIVE Cluster

In response to recent shortages and alarming declines of wild and managed bee populations, the BeeHIVE cluster explores the honey bee’s role as pollinator, producer, and biomonitor. Using innovative fingerprinting tools, they seek to understand how these critical functions are impacted by environmental exposures (both natural and human caused), with the common goal of improving the health of honey bees and of native pollinators.

Hives for Humanity (H4H) is a non-profit organization that encourages community connections through apiculture, more commonly known as beekeeping. Through mentorship based programming, they create flexible opportunities for people to engage in the therapeutic culture that surrounds the hive; they foster connectivity to nature and to each other; they participate in local sustainable economies; they support at-risk populations of people and pollinators, and H4H does so with respect and joy.
